A House Divided Into 4_Project

The project is planned on a site located near the sea, surrounded by a rich environment where remnants of a windbreak forest, such as scattered pine trees, still remain. However, the land is part of a subdivided residential development, and the lot has a narrow and elongated shape, measuring 6 meters in width and 17 meters in depth. The design explores how a building can be positioned on such a site.

The first floor houses a café that also serves as the living and kitchen area, while the second floor contains the bedroom and bathroom. By shifting the volumes of the first and second floors horizontally, the walls and floors form a cross-shaped section, resulting in the creation of two interior and two exterior spaces. The interior spaces and the exterior spaces are each disconnected, yet remain in linear contact. This creates a relationship that is simultaneously near and far—within reach, but just out of touch—a spatial experience that evokes a sense of frustration or yearning.

To move from one interior space to another, one must pass through an exterior space. This experience fosters an awareness of a moderate separation between public and private areas, as well as between living and working spaces. The exterior areas function as extensions of the café and living spaces, and are envisioned as potential interiors through future expansions.
